Toys boost John Lewis sales

Week to July 18th sales rise by 5.3 per cent, one of its best of the year so far.
Sales at the group's 27 UK department stores were £52.61 million pounds, up from £49.98 million pounds in the same week last year.
A one-off correction to first-half sales of fitted kitchens boosted what would have been +2.9 per cent to +5.3 per cent.
Toys, nursery and haberdashery led the way, with sales up by 13 per cent.
Sixteen branches achieved or bettered last year, with High Wycombe, Peter Jones and Southampton the front-runners.
John Lewis Direct also produced another strong increase versus last year.
David Barford, director of selling operations in Region B commented: “As we move into the final weeks of the half we have significant opportunity that the school holiday provides; in Scotland this is of course already well under way. We have some excellent new-season product coming while still dealing with pockets of clearance.”
